Protection philosophy fixed, systems defined in principle, budget and space claim established.

Basic design
Systems sized, layouts set, equipment defined, interfaces agreed with other disciplines.
03
Detailed design
Drawings, specifications, datasheets, calculations, cause-and-effect matrices, bills of quantities.
Systems
- Fire and gas detection, alarm and voice evacuation
- Water-based suppression: deluge, sprinkler, monitors, hydrants
- Foam systems, including transition to fluorine-free concentrates
- Gaseous and clean agent suppression
- Fire water supply, storage and pumping
- Passive protection: fireproofing of structures and vessel supports, compartmentation
Interface management with process, electrical, HVAC, instrumentation and structural disciplines is part of the scope, not an afterthought. Most fire protection defects found at commissioning are interface defects.
